Shri Dhirendranath Sen and wife Snehalata

They were two of the earliest devotees of Brahmajna Ma.   Brahmajna Ma personally blessed them and their family.

These are snippets of memories from the family, friends and descendants of Shri Dhirendranath Sen

The house in Wellinton Town, Deoghar, where Brahmajna Ma did 'deha tyag' (left her body) was later purchased by Bikram Choudhury, the founder of  Bikram (Hot) Yoga.  It was related by his wife that "no couples could stay in Brahmajna Ma's room since they would see images of a white clad person."

Anandamoyi Ma was another self-realized saint in India who would pay occasional visits to the Nirban Math, Deoghar.  It is said that she would come to visit 'Mayer Chele', Mother's son, referring to Shri Dhirendranath Sen.  During these visits she would sit quietly in the Nirban Math grounds to pay her respects.

It is said that Brahmajna Ma had blessed Shri Dhirendranath Sen with some medicinal powers.  Apparently when a dear friend was very sick,  he had asked for Her advice. Brahmajna Ma simply advised that he should just give his friend some water from his hands.  Later She had said that anything that he administered with his hands would have medicinal effects.  This is probably where the 'Thakumar Jaal' tradition started.

Another incident of 'Thakumar Jaal' that is often recounted is when Anila (Rani) the eldest daughter had fallen very sick.  It is said that when this was related to Brahmajna Ma, she requested Shri Dhirendrath Sen to give Her specially blessed water to Rani.

A must for each new family member is the acquisition of a Madhuli, an amulet containing a specific herb blessed by Brahmajna Ma.  The knowledge of making these amulets used to reside with Shri Dhirendranath Sen; most family members remember receiving their madhuli from him.  This 'madhuli making' knowledge was later passed on to Nita Biswas (Khukumoni), one his daughters.

Nita Biswas (Khukumoni) was personally blessed by Brahmajna Ma since she was fed by Her at her rice ceremony.

One of the special powers often exhibited by Brahmajna Ma was fore-knowledge or premonition.  She apparently foresaw the birth of Shri Dhirendranath Sen's first child.  On foreseeing this, She told Dhiren that a son would be born and he should be named Santi.  This in fact was the name then given to the son.

Shri Dhirendranath Sen also relates in his book that when eldest son Santi was 12 years old, "Mother told me that we should leave all worldly matters to the boy.... By Her blessings he took charge of my affairs and of all his brothers and sisters without my telling him to do so"

Pictures of family stalwarts that have kept alive the legacy of Thakuma and  maintained Nirban Math over the years.
